These are just some of the developing stories we are expecting to follow today, Tuesday, in news from Pakistan and the region.
  • Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to appear before Supreme Court in Pakpattan shrine land case. He is accused of illegally transferring 8,000 kanal of Auqaf’s land to Dewan Ghulam Qutab as Punjab CM in 1985. A three-member bench headed by the chief justice will hear the case. At the last hearing, the court had rejected Nawaz’s written statement.
  • The Economic Coordination Committee will meet today (Tuesday). Finance Minister Asad Umar will chair it. A five-point agenda will be discussed. The officials will deliberate over solving the problems of Chinese industries. A summary of the country’s imports will be presented as well. The ECC is expected to give approval to gas provision from Zafar field.
  • Bangladesh and Hong Kong teams arrived in Karachi to play in the Emerging Asia Cup 2018. The matches of Group B will be played in Karachi.
  • US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday morning. He is expected to facilitate an inclusive peace process in Afghanistan. The US diplomat will be in communication with President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah, and other Afghan stakeholders to coordinate closely on efforts to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table with the Afghan government and other Afghans. Khalilzad will also travel to Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium and the UAE.
